Progress On Manila House Of Studies |

Ground was broken last spring for the Salvatorians' new house of studies. With completion slated for June, 2010, the accompanying photo shows the concrete of the top floor being poured. The building, located in the Quezon City section of the Philippine capital, will house 25 students and six staff members. Plans include a chapel, library, dining room, kitchen, and several multi-purpose rooms. The roof will provide space for the laundry, a lanai, and sports area.

It was two hours before dawn when we left home, two Salvatorians, a Priest and a Brother. A quick stop at an all night coffee shop where we met two friends, our guide and an interpreter, and we left for Parola. You may not find Parola on many Manila city maps, but there just meters from the waterfront and the docks lies one of the largest slums in the city. It may no longer be politically correct to use the word slum...
